Director's Message

Paediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the medical care of newborns, infants, children and adolescents. Treating a child is not like treating a miniature adult — the obvious differences in size are paralleled by maturational changes, and physiologically they differ substantially from adults. Compassionate care, and not just cure, is the motto of the paediatrics department.

The department was established under my direct supervision in July 2008. It has developed over the years and is known for being compassionate towards children and their parents, for paying attention to the holistic development of a child, and for using the latest developments in the field — so much so that difficult cases from around Bharatpur district, and from Agra, Mathura, Gwalior and Kota, are referred here. Alongside diagnosing and treating serious and complicated illness, we continue to increase the preventive and rehabilitation services we offer.

Good support from the other specialities — gynaecology, orthopaedics, urology, nephrology, dermatology, neurology, ENT, cardiology and general surgery — means a child who comes to the paediatrics department gets the best. There is 24-hour access to laboratory services and blood transfusion services with facilities for component therapy. A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is also available. The outpatient department conducts daily vaccination and a well baby clinic, and paediatric specialities such as asthma, epilepsy, allergy and gastroenterology problems are dealt with daily in OPD, with 24-hour emergency facilities for sick children.

The goal of the department is simple: to send the baby home with good care.
